  • Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) Plans - Employer funded accounts for individual employees. A Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) can be coupled with high deductible health coverage (HDHC) or it can be offered on a stand-alone basis where an employee is not required to participate in the HDHC in order to be eligible to participate in the HRA.

Generally, employers are using the HRA in moving group insurance premiums to a higher deductible plan, which will provide the employer with a premium savings, which the employer can then in turn provide monies back to participants to help off set the now larger deductible.

A Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is entirely employer funded and can be funded on a period basis such as weekly, monthly, pay period, or up front annual basis. The HRA can also include a rollover provision, if you allow, at the end of the plan year. You may restrict or allow all IRS eligible expenses to qualify under your HRA plan based on your unique plan design.

A central principle is the creation of employer-funded accounts for individual employees, under which unused amounts are NOT forfeited at the end of each plan year, but rather are carried over for use in future years. This is in contrast to the Section 125 Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). Note, however, in the FSA plans that participants should only be running through known expenses, therefore eliminating the worry of the "use-it-or-lose-it" rule.

  • Retirement Plans

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80% of full-time employees participated in one or more employer-sponsored retirement plans in 1997. This statistic alone is proof that retirement plans are becoming a standard in employee benefits. This is another way for you to help your employees prepare for their future while they work hard for yours.
